SLE LUPUS AND DRUG SIDE-EFFECTS

It is with a heavy heart that I write to my sisters who share this unpredictable, auto-immune deficiency disease. My empathy overflows when I see vital, mostly young, women who are just being diagnosed, but are hopefully learning how to care for themselves, when even doctors may be challenged how to fight this indefinable illness. Know your own body … what works for you … what triggers the pain, fatigue, and anxiety that comes with this insidious wolf (root word, Lupus, means “wolf” in French) that dwells inside us, eating away our hopes, dreams, and futures … literally.

I recently had a drug side-effect from a new-to-me medication, which hospitalized me for almost a week. I advocate for the cure, support, and especially understanding from others who may not be able to “see” the wolf lying in wait to take away our spirit, self-esteem, and essence from our loved ones.

I’m floating in the air

I shouldn’t have a care

But somehow I’m odd and misplaced

I know my mouth is located on my face

But the sound of my voice comes back to me

From some other place in the room or echoed back from the ceiling

I wonder what this vertigo means; what the dizziness is revealing

I just can’t explain how I feel …

Disconnected, adrift,  lost, unreal…

Free falling…

My inadequacies extolling…

Where do I belong?

When did I go wrong?

The dream becomes the nightmare

Beware … Beware … Beware…

Sometimes it isn’t carefree

Sometimes you just can’t see

When you don’t have a care in the world

Sometimes, it’s Terror!

Hello World!

I’ve been under-the-weather for weeks! The flu can be very dangerous for those of us with compromised immune systems. I have Lupus/Rheumatoid Arthritis–20 years +. The flu shot didn’t include all the mutated strains out there this year. I don’t mean to complain. In fact, I want to say, Thank you, God, for getting me through upper respiratory infection/pneumonia once again.

IT’S GREAT TO BE ALIVE! Blessing to all my followers. Stay well and happy!

Deborah A. Bowman is an author, editor, ghost-writer, and public speaker on Paranormal Psychology, Self-Hypnosis, Hypnotherapy, and Victims’ Abuse. She has been certified as an Advanced Clinical Hypnotherapist, writing a monthly column for “The Medical News” and featured in the “Washington Post Parenting Magazine” on Hypnotherapy for ADHD Teens.

She was certified as a Technical Writer/Editor at the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture Grad School and worked as Publications Control Officer, Chief of Publishing, for The Army Materiel Command, Department of Defense. She was editor-in-chief of The Federal Women’s Program monthly newsletter, News & Views, distributed Army-wide in the continental United States.

She is a 25-year Lupus/RA survivor and an advocate for research to find the cure. While confined in a wheelchair, she worked as a reader for the Erie Literary Agency, learning how to overcome pitfalls in plot and syntax that can plague even the most seasoned writers, and now using these techniques in her own novels. Also, while incapacitated she was editor, proof-reader, formatter, and quality control expert for the online website ebookstand.com, rated no. 3 on Oprah Winfrey’s list of printing-on-demand, online companies.
